A two-tiered reliable application layer multicast
This paper presents a two-tiered reliable application layer multicast (ALM) solution, called HRALM, to provide lossless ALM services. HRALM builds a domain-based multicast tree, and divides the members into two transport planes (i.e., Plane 1 and Plane 2) in terms of the tree. In any domain, the distance between each member and the domain header is below a given threshold, which improves the ca...
متن کاملFaReCast: Fast, Reliable Application Layer Multicast for Flash Dissemination
To disseminate messages from a single source to a large number of targeted receivers, a natural approach is the tree-based application layer multicast (ALM). However, in time-constrained flash dissemination scenarios, e.g. earthquake early warning, where time is of the essence, the tree-based ALM has a single point of failure; its reliable extensions using ack-based failure recovery protocols c...
متن کاملOn Application Layer Multicast
Application Layer Multicast (ALM) is a promising technology for constructing content delivery systems across the Internet with low cost and scalability. Unlike the conventional, well-known IP Multicast paradigm, ALM uses unicast to virtually realize multicast communications. In this article, we present a survey of state-of-the-art techniques for designing efficient ALM trees and the challenges ...
متن کاملApplication Layer Multicast Algorithm
This paper presents a multicast algorithm, called MSM-s, for pointto-multipoint transmissions. The algorithm, which has complexity O(n) in respect of the number n of nodes, is easy to implement and can actually be applied in other point-to-multipoint systems such as distributed computing. We analyze the algorithm and we provide some upper and lower bounds for the multicast time delay.
متن کاملA case for Passive Application Layer Multicast
Over the last few years, application-layer multicast (ALM) has emerged as a plausible solution for supporting group-oriented applications. However, ALM suffers from inefficiency due to its reliance on end hosts and potentially significant changes at both the server and client applications. In this paper, we propose an approach, PALM (Passive Application Layer Multicast), that removes the need f...
